THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (CCC)

1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),4 and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."5

Baptism

  • Parents should have their infants baptized in the first few weeks following the birth.
  • Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays after the 11:00 AM Mass.
  • Parents must be registered and active and supporting parishioners with a regular routine of prayer, a program of spiritual development and commitment to the Catholic Faith in addition to Sunday and Holy Day Masses and regular Confession.
  • Parents must attend a pre-birth baptismal class early on in the pregnancy. Contact the Deacon at 684-6098.
  • Godparents must be active, practicing Catholics (if married of course, married in the Church).
  • Christian names must be given to the children.
