Family - Community Life
Family Life Commission Member
The Family Life Commission works to create an environment that strengthens our parish as a family, recognizing the diversity of our members and the need for support at all ages and stages of life. Please consider joining as a member or supporting our many parish activities. The Family Life Commission meets every other month on Monday at 7:00 pm.
Angel Tree
The Angel Tree, sponsored by the Asheville Catholic Social Services Western Regional Office, brings warmth and joy to many needy children and adults during the holiday season. Parishioners are invited to select a tag from the tree and purchase an appropriate gift. The gifts are returned to the Church, sorted, tagged, and delivered. Financial gifts are also welcome. Volunteers are needed to help with the tagging and delivery.
Cook for Funeral Lunches
St. Barnabas parishioners offer light receptions for funerals at our Church. Volunteers are needed to supply appetizers, light sandwiches, or desserts as requested. If you would be willing to help comfort a family at this time, please consider allowing us to call upon you as needed.
Coffee and Doughnuts
St. Barnabas Parish offers coffee and doughnuts and a wonderful opportunity to socialize with other parishioners after each Mass. Several volunteers serve refreshments on a monthly basis. The entire family is welcome to assist with this ministry.
Child Care /Nursery
We have a nursery available for children under the age of 3, during the Sunday Masses. Those parents whose children use the nursery are asked to volunteer their services on a rotating basis. Other adults are also welcome to volunteer. Two adults must be present at all times. High School volunteers can also assist. Childcare is occasionally needed during parish meetings and events. Training is necessary and volunteers can designate which days they are available. You will be called on an as-needed basis.
Pictorial Directory Assistance
Our Parish Directory is a wonderful and very resourceful guide. As a new updated directory is made, we will need a coordinator, and MANY VOLUNTEERS to help this project run smoothly. If you have experience in helping with a directory, your help would be very valuable. Even if you do not have prior experience, we could use your assistance!
Cook and Kitchen Help
Special receptions are held for Epiphany (January), Soup and Substance (Lent), Easter Vigil, the Parish Picnic and other special events. Cooks and Kitchen Helpers are needed for these receptions.
Welcome Committee
The Welcome Committee is responsible for welcoming new parishioners. Tasks include registering new
parishioners after Mass on weekends, visiting new people and planning new members receptions.
