Liturgical Ministries

Liturgy Commission Member

The Liturgy Commission consists of the Pastor, The Deacon, and representatives from the ministries of Readers, Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist, Servers, Greeters, Music, and Holy Communion to the Sick. The Liturgy Commission serves as an advisory group to the Pastor in matters relating to those liturgical functions that serve as the primary demonstrative expressions of faith and worship as well as special celebrations and programs explicitly involving spiritual development and growth of the parishioners.  The responsibilities include assisting the Pastor in implementing all liturgical directives promulgated by the universal and diocesan Church and planning and preparing for the development and coordination of liturgical ministers as well as planning and preparing for liturgical seasons and feasts.  Also, at the request of the Pastor, the members of this Commission assist in planning and preparing for Forty Hours Devotions, Parish Mission, Days of Recollection, Funerals, Wedding Anniversaries, Liturgy of the Hours, Penance Services, Stations of the Cross, and other celebrations and activities. Meetings of the Liturgy Commission are held five times a year on Saturday morning.

Daily Mass

Our daily Mass schedule is posted in the weekly bulletin.  Consider beginning your day with sacrifice of the Holy Mass.  We are given such a wonderful opportunity to receive the grace of the physical body of Jesus on a daily basis! Prioritize your day!

Eucharistic Adoration (Betty Nagel)

Eucharistic Adoration is offered from 6 AM to 10 PM in the Chapel.  Everyone is encouraged to build up their Faith Life with their gift of one hour a week to Jesus.  Come and spend an hour with our Lord in Adoration of the Real Presence. If you are willing to commit one hour a week, please call so that we can add you to the schedule. If you are unable to commit, please consider walking in any time during office hours to spend time with the Lord!

Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Deacon Art, 698-6084)

When ordinary ministers of the Holy Eucharistic (Deacons, priests, Bishops) are not available in sufficient number to distribute Holy Communion at Mass or certain other liturgical celebrations, the pastor may appoint lay men and women to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion.  These Extra Ordinary ministers of Holy Communion must have a profound love of the Holy Eucharist, an understanding of the Eucharistic Liturgy and the Church, and be an active member of the parish and practicing their faith.  At times, the Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion may be appointed additionally to take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.  Training is required.

Altar Boys (Fr. Arnsparger, 684-6098)

Altar Boys assist the Priest at the Liturgy of the Church:  at the Sacrifice of the Mass, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and for all liturgical prayer when requested.  They are the leaders of prayer and therefore should exhibit a reverence and love for the Lord and be witnesses to the parish and our visitors. Servers must be boys who have received the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion and must be in at least 5th grade. Training is required.

To be an Altar Server, you must agree to the following:

  1. Attend 2 Saturday workshops a year
  2. Attend extra practices for special ceremonies
  3. Be at Church 15 minutes before the Mass you are scheduled to  serve
  4. Wear “Sunday Best” clothes for Mass; no shorts or tee shirts
  5. Wear dress shoes: no tennis shoes, sneakers, sandals, platforms, etc.
  6.  Have hair well groomed, cut short or pulled back
  7. Wear no earrings
  8. Wear no jewelry other than religious medals
  9. Wear no make-up or colored nail polish
  10. Have no tattoos

Readers at Mass (Deacon Art)

Readers are entrusted with the crucial task of proclaiming the Sacred Scriptures at liturgical celebrations.  There must be a love of the Sacred Scriptures and a readiness for training.  We provide a workbook to help in the preparation for this service.

Greeters

Greeters are members of the parish who offer a friendly greeting and acknowledge parishioners and visitors arriving for Mass, assist people in seating, assure that the offertory gifts are collected and taken to the Altar as well as distribute materials at the end of Mass.  Greeters are present at Sunday and holy day Masses as well as special liturgical celebrations.  Training is required.

Launderer

(Altar Server Vestments - Isabelle Marino)

Volunteers help with the laundering of Sacred Linens: corporals, purificators, finger or ablution towels, altar cloths. Some training is required and provided.  This laundry is done on a rotational schedule for one weekend Mass or all Weekday Masses. Altar server vestments are done seasonally and as needed.
